Meditation that Transforms
Listen to the Lesson:
“Always remember what is written in the Book of the Teachings. Study it day and night to be sure to obey everything that is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything.”
—Joshua 1:8 NCV
A Cow and a Quiet Moment
The journey of faith doesn’t start in the crowd—it starts in the quiet. In my early years of ministry, I thought spiritual growth came from doing more. More church. More service. More noise. But I quickly discovered that growth begins with slowing down, not speeding up.
One day, a rancher shared a word picture with me that I’ve never forgotten. He told me about how cows chew their cud—slowly, over and over—extracting every ounce of nutrition. “That’s what meditation is,” he said. “It’s not rushing through Scripture. It’s chewing on it, again and again, until it nourishes your soul.”
That picture changed how I approached God’s Word. I stopped speeding through my devotions. I began to meditate.
This is the path. God’s truth starts in the head—but it’s meditation that moves it to the heart. From the heart, it brings transformation. And only then can we live it out in our actions.
Meditation isn’t about emptying your mind; it’s about filling it with truth. Slowly. Intentionally. Repeatedly. Like that cow, you come back to the same verse, again and again, asking:
- What is God saying?
- What does this mean for me?
- What needs to change?
When I Started the Journey
When I committed to meditating on God’s Word—not just reading it—I noticed changes I couldn’t explain. My reactions softened. My focus sharpened. My prayers deepened. I was no longer just remembering Scripture—I was becoming shaped by it.
I invite you to try the same.
Start small. Pick one verse a day. Sit with it. Think about it while driving, cooking, resting. Whisper it in the morning. Write it down at lunch. Repeat it before bed. Let it soak in.
Over time, you’ll notice the shift: what was once just known is now lived.
Why Reflection Matters
You don’t need to rush.
You don’t need to be a Bible scholar.
You just need to stay close to the Shepherd and keep chewing.
- As you meditate on the verse, you’ll notice the change.
Clarity will come.
Peace will grow.
Wisdom will rise.
Victory will follow
Reflect and Meditate
“Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and strengthen each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing with thanks in your hearts to God.”
—Colossians 3:16 NCV
